MADAME MOZART, THE LACRIMOSA

A dead genius, an unfinished masterpiece and an underestimated woman…

“Playwright Anne Undeland has surpassed her previous triumphs with a perfect evening of theater. Brava!” —Peter Bergman Berkshire Edge review

The story: Take me with you, Wolfie. Please. I can’t do it alone, pleads Constanze Mozart as she drags the still warm but very dead body of her husband, Wolfgang Amadeus, into the basement in December of 1791. Wolfie had just died in the messiest way possible: covered in vomit, his Requiem in D Minor unfinished, his family watching in horror, creditors at the door. It was up to Wolfie to make the music, but it was up to Stanzi to face it.

Madame Mozart, the Lacrimosa is a heist and a quest. It’s the story of a suddenly-single mother, fiercely driven to not only survive, but ultimately to triumph. It’s a mesmerizing theatrical experience

There are surprises galore. A perfect visualization…the always imaginative playwright chose to make Constanze a synesthete…seeing colors when hearing sounds…magical. —Barbara Waldinger, Berkshire on Stage

Bold…visually striking, emotionally ambitious…spellbinding…an experiential setting that is wholly on another plane. —Jeffrey Borak, The Berkshire Eagle

Madame Mozart, the Lacrimosa is 90 minutes long without an intermission. It features two actors: Constane Mozart and another actor shape-shifting to portray six different characters, and a piano player who represents the spirit of Mozart’s music.

Madame Mozart was inspired by the short story “Lacrymosa” by author and musician Gerald Elias
